The Issue

I recently received a quote for $4,500 to install a whole home reverse osmosis system, and it got me thinking: why should I have to foot the bill to ensure my family's water is safe? Shouldn't this be the responsibility of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to safeguard our drinking water from harmful contaminants like arsenic, lead, and PFAS? It's frustrating to feel like the systems in place aren't doing their job.

Recently, a federal court ruled that clean drinking water isn’t a constitutional right, and this ruling is deeply troubling. It seems like the EPA is moving in the wrong direction, approving new so-called "forever chemicals" instead of cracking down on them. The enforcement of existing safety standards is being rolled back instead of strengthened. This situation leaves many of us, especially new moms and those concerned about toxic exposure, feeling betrayed. Our water bills should cover safe water delivery, not just a pipe to our homes.

Why are we expected to pay thousands out of pocket to ensure the quality of a necessity that was presumably protected by our regulatory agencies? This feels backwards. Instead of individuals taking on this financial burden, we need the EPA to step up and provide the oversight and protection that ensures all Americans have access to clean and safe drinking water, free from harmful chemicals.

What we need is a significant overhaul of the existing regulations. We’re calling for the EPA to implement stricter limits on dangerous chemicals like PFAS, to truly protect public health on a national scale. Our safety should not be compromised by lax regulations. Let’s push for a system where families don't have to fear what comes out of their taps.

Join me in demanding stronger EPA regulations to protect our water. Sign this petition to let the EPA know we expect them to fulfill their duty to provide clean and safe water for everyone in our country.
