The Issue

As a resident deeply concerned about animal welfare, I'm reaching out to the City of Pointe Claire and Pointe Claire Plaza regarding the distressing conditions that animals endure in public settings such as shopping malls. These environments are not suitable for animals, as they are subjected to loud noises, glaring lights, and constant interaction with people, particularly children, which can be overwhelming for them.  https://www.facebook.com/reel/26191693000453978/?fs=e&fs=e

This is sensory hell for animals.  Please email admin@plazapointeclaire.com and ask that they use non animal displays next year.

Animals accustomed to tranquil, rural settings find these urban environments extremely stressful. They are often confined to inadequately sized pens that restrict their natural behaviors like grazing, running, or hiding. Furthermore, the unnatural flooring of malls—concrete and tile—adds to their discomfort, as does the difficulty in maintaining proper sanitation in such bustling environments. These conditions not only undermine the well-being of the animals but also demonstrate a lack of commitment to animal welfare within our community.

The current bylaws in Pointe Claire primarily focus on dogs and nuisances, offering scant protection for a wide range of animals put on display in retail settings. By comparison, other communities, like Dorval, have faced similar challenges, as seen in local discussions and reports.

We need to take decisive action to update and strengthen these animal protection bylaws. Side-by-side with the City of Pointe Claire and the Pointe Claire Plaza, we can establish clear guidelines that ensure the welfare and rights of animals are prioritized. These regulations should include limitations on the use of animals in public and commercial spaces, mandatory welfare checks, and strict adherence to proper living conditions suited to the animals' natural needs.

Join me in urging our local leaders to fortify the existing laws to better protect animals from unnecessary stress and living conditions that do not meet their basic welfare requirements. Let us work together to create a compassionate and responsible community for all its inhabitants—human and animal alike. Please sign this petition to call for these crucial changes in our city’s bylaws. Your support is vital in making a significant difference in the lives of these animals.
