Street Curb Infrastructure
Street Curb Infrastructure
The Issue
To the Honorable Mayor and Members of the Rochester City Council,
We, the residents and taxpayers of Stony Pointe Subdivision, respectfully request your urgent assistance and action to cause the repair of failing street curb infrastructure in our neighborhood. Street curbs have been deteriorating in our community, particularly in the west section of our subdivision. The effect of this deterioration is clearly visible and is having a negative impact on drainage and will eventually affect road bases. In addition to having an impact on our home values (and taxable value thereby) at least one resident has fallen as a result of these poor conditions.
Repairing many of our failing curbs was part of a previously-funded project the City had set for the 2023 construction season. Based on problems between the contractor and the City, this 2023 project was cancelled and was to be replanned for the 2024 construction season. Instead of the project being replanned, it was confusingly taken off schedule due to City policy changes, and other subdivisions on the east side of Rochester were/are being addressed in the 2024 and 2025 construction season repair work.
At present, Stony Pointe is still not on any known schedule for this work despite it having been previously determined as needed and funded. As a result of City policy changes, it has been suggested that crumbling curbs may not be fixed in a complete fashion until our streets come due for resurfacing; likely 5+ years from now.
We believe this policy should be changed and request your assistance to help work with the Asset Committee in order to re-prioritize these urgently needed repairs into the 2025 construction season, whether by way of appropriate funding in the City’s 2024-2025 and/or its 2025-2026 budgets.
Signed,
