Stop the destruction of our Homebase - STREATHAM

The Issue

A Homebase in Streatham Vale is set to be demolished and replaced with 272 flats and commercial space if a planning application is approved.

This homebase is an ideal location for all surrounding homeowners especially in streatham, norwood, norbury and tooting & mitcham.

Ever since i was a child over 20 yrs ago..  The road was lined with buldings, art deco like, all filed with independent business owners and people who lived and loved in the area.. unfortunately the buildings fell apart some stood however they ended taking it all down, this opened up more view to the site (homebase) making it almost iconic to the area.

Where we live is 15 -20 mins from london on a train, almost an hour by the bus. however this shouldnt require a bunch of developers looking for work and ways to excuse their disregard for the areas needs with putting into effect more dwellings - its a very busy area as its a main link road between croydon and central london. to put in another 100 - 200 dwellings on top of what we already deal with is enough to create problems unlike never seen before.. and believe me we already have our problems - late night drunks and a leap of excited children awaiting the cityscape stories..

Developer Hadley Property Group and Clarion Housing Group have partnered to redevelop the site in Streatham Vale – they announced they purchased it last September.

According to their pre-application development presentation, going before a Lambeth planning committee on Tuesday (June 29 2021), the scheme would be made up of four blocks ranging between five and 13 storeys.

Homebase Streatham Vale
No decision will be made on the plans tomorrow – the meeting is an opportunity for the applicants to make a presentation and discuss any issues.

The plans include more than 500 cycle spaces within a dedicated ‘cycle hub’, which would be on the ground and first floor of one of the blocks.

A small café and cycle workshop is also proposed. - not much people cycle in the area.. the area hasn't had an influx of people since 1994..

Play space is also proposed onsite for children between 0 and 11 years, and offsite for children between 12 and 18. - we have almost 7 open spaces in the area..with one of londons largest parks.

Hadley and Clarion, who have joined forces to deliver mixed-use developments in urban areas, are hoping to submit their full planning application by late July 2021

According to Hadley: “As well as providing new high-quality homes that contribute to the need for housing in the local area, we will be creating a friendly street character.

“We’re also exploring the possibility of opening up the front of site and creating new outdoor communal spaces with green landscaping for all to enjoy. - again - we have more green spaces than most places across london.

what we need in the area is yes - more businesses.. but not business that puts the people who've lived here all their lives at risk of losing, gentrification if anything has and always will build divides in the community forcing people to conform or be ignored and ill treated.
