Strathcona Regional District & United Steelworker Local 1-1937 return to negotiations

The Issue

We implore the Strathcona Regional District and United Steelworkers Local 1-1937 to immediately return to the bargaining table to prevent further damage to the communityand resolve this labour dispute.

It is our responsibility to model healthy and responsible conflict resolution, recognizing and considering the impacts to everyone in our community.  Recreation facilities are for all to use, to foster and build healthy communities.  To bring communities together.  Hockey is to be a community-builder.  This has affected people of all ages who rely on the facilities for swimming lessons, exercise classes, therapeutic use, minor hockey, figure skating and ultimately contribute to a healthy vibrant community.

It is time for both parties to come together, respectfully communicate, compromise, and resolve this now.   In addition to all the life moments that have been missed, economic opportunities lost, and the Campbell River Storm league leading season is in jeopardy.  Sport teaches the strength and value in teamwork, collaboration and how to work together respectfully, and to sometimes compromise for the good of the team. This is the path forward.  It is in your hands to prevent any further harm to our kids, taxpayers, user groups, the Campbell River Storm, and to the community as a whole.  Strathcona Gardens Complex is somewhere the community gathers to share common interests, celebrate sport, and function as a community – together.

We encourage you to sign if you have been affected by this dispute, share your story.  And please share widely throughout your networks.
