We need your help urgently!
The neighbors in the Queen-Cobourg-Trow area who are opposing the Chancery development are facing escalating costs. They need help funding their Ontario Land Tribunal appeal, which may cost upwards of $50,000. All but $11, 000 has been collected.
What is this money to be used for? In order to appear before the OLT, a citizen group must be represented by professional witnesses, i.e., a lawyer and a municipal planner. Because this issue involves heritage, architecture, and environment, they must also have a consultant who is knowledgeable in these issues.
This is not simply an issue for the Festival Area Ratepayers of which the Queen-Cobourg-Trow neighborhood is a part. The Chancery development will set a precedent for the rest of the city. Because of the amendments to the City's Official Plan that it requires, developers will be able to change the official plan to suit their needs, not the needs of those fighting to preserve heritage neighborhoods.
Any donation would be appreciated.
