BIO Gas Plant Location - Stratford, On. Canada

BIO Gas Plant Location - Stratford, On. Canada

The Issue

The City of Stratford is considering a Renewable Natural Gas Project to be built at the existing Water Pollution Plant at 701 West Gore Street. The City feels this is the best location to build as they can use SOME of the existing infrastructure. The project, if approved by City Council, involves the addition of new equipment at the West Gore Street Plant to allow for large quantities of organic matter to be processed there. For this to happen, we would need outside municipalities to truck their waste into Stratford for processing. This organic matter includes waste from households, commercial, industrial (factories, plants, wholesalers and restaurants) to name a few.

The City has heard at recent meetings and comments through email that many many residents DO NOT want this built at the Water Pollution Plant. The residents have spoken of safety, smell, noise and increased traffic. The residents have spoken of the price tag - $22.7 million dollars. The residents have spoken of no guarantees of payback. The residents have spoken about this unsuitable location which is surrounded by residential, retirement, nursing homes, schools, Hospital and conservation area. The residents have asked City officials to look at alternatives. The residents have said, GOOD IDEA....WRONG LOCATION.
