Everyday schools, restaurants, grocery stores, etc… are throwing away so much good unused packaged food because of laws made by the USDA and U.S. Government. Working in the school system I have seen so much food that could have been donated, or even sent home with staff and students go in the trash! I even had to throw away the food. :( Inflation is real, and the cost of food is rising. Families are struggling, and many kids only meals are the ones they get from school. I am asking for the USDA and U.S. Government to #ChangeTheLaws! To more resourceful ones that do not consist of throwing away. #ChangeTheLaws so students and staff can take home extra non congregate food home. And #ChangeTheLaws to where students take what they want and are not required to take 1 of everything. That requirement creates so much waste because they throw out what they already don’t want! #ChangeTheLaws so students can take food they want out of the cafeteria. Many students want the food but are full so want to save it for later. But laws require all food to stay in cafeteria. 
As an educator I think what are students learning from this? They are being taught to just throw out what they don’t want and wasting so much good food. This inspired me to start this campaign and use it as a teaching moment. Our children are the voices of the future. The things they learn now will determine OUR future.
