Dear Dignity Health CNA Union Nurses
As union member and local union representative of the California Nurses Association, I stand with you at a critical moment in our fight for a fair contract with Dignity Health. “WE MUST VOTE NO”
The proposed agreement—recommended for a “Yes” vote by our negotiating team—falls short of what we deserve: wages that reflect our worth, equitable standby and preceptor pay, safe staffing ratios, and robust workplace protections. Now is the time to unite, harness our collective strength, and demand better by voting “No” and negotiating at the local level. United we stand, union strong!
Why Local Negotiations Matter
Our power lies in our unity, but also in our ability to fight on multiple fronts. Each of our facilities—25 strong across California and Nevada—faces unique challenges. At Mercy General in Sacramento, staffing shortages strain patient care. At St. Joseph’s in Stockton, equipment issues persist. At Glendale Memorial, nurses demand fair compensation in a high-cost region. By negotiating at the local level, we ensure every voice is heard and every issue is bargained for. Local bargaining amplifies our leverage, forcing Dignity Health to address the specific needs of St. Rose Dominican in Nevada, Mercy Redding in the North State, or Marian Regional on the Central Coast. When we fight together, facility by facility, we multiply our impact and make it impossible for management to ignore us.
United We Stand, Union Strong
Our union’s strength is rooted in solidarity. From the CNA/NNOC President Sandy Reding in Bakersfield to negotiators like Chelsey Booker at St. Rose De Lima, Liz Garcia at Methodist, and Phillip Penn at St. Mary’s Long Beach, we are one union, one voice. A “No” vote sends a clear message: we reject a contract that doesn’t meet our standards. It’s not about division—it’s about demanding respect for every nurse, whether at Sequoia Hospital or Mercy Mt. Shasta. Together, we can push Dignity Health back to the table, armed with demands shaped by nurses on the ground. As we’ve said before, united we stand, divided we fall.
Fighting on Multiple Fronts
Negotiating locally doesn’t mean fighting alone—it means waging a coordinated battle across all fronts. Imagine the power of Mercy Folsom nurses, led by Becca Long, rallying for safe staffing, while St. Bernardine nurses, with Tim Moreno, demand better wages. Picture Mercy San Juan, guided by Frank Bartuska, joining forces with French Hospital, led by Joan Silva, to fight for workplace safety. When every facility—from Dominican in Santa Cruz to California Hospital Medical Center in Los Angeles—brings its demands to the table, Dignity Health faces a united front they cannot dismiss. Our negotiators, including Kathryn Cancio at Bruceville Terrace, Kylie Stancill at Sequoia, and Joe Domingos at Marian Regional, are ready to lead this charge. Let’s empower them with a resounding “No” vote.
