The SUHSD Board of Trustees has scheduled a special board meeting at 5pm next Monday November 14.  This is an open session meeting and there will be public comment on agenda items at 5pm.  I need all parents who care about the issue of the ongoing inappropriate use of supplemental teaching materials such as the video "This is America", to be at this meeting.  Also on the agenda to be discussed by the board is school campus safety.  I believe student board member Jackson Richards will be presenting a plan that he collaborated on at a recent workshop he attended with hundreds of other California students.  I have reached out to Jackson via email to provide my input on campus safety and some ideas that I've had over the years to better secure and protect our students, teachers and other classified staff.  Jackson has responded and welcomed my input and is thankful to have parents who are involved and speak up about the various issues that affect students and their families.  This is also a very important issue to me and something I am very passionate about.  I need people to please commit to being at that board meeting and if you have anything to say on either of these matters, please fill out one of the pink cards at the meeting and step up to that microphone and speak your mind.  I think it's best to write out something that you would like to say unless you are very good at speaking off the cuff.  Comments are typically limited to 3 minutes, but sometimes the board makes exceptions depending on how many people would like to speak.  The district office has drafted an amendment to their supplemental materials policy which I have included a picture of.  The proposed amended language is in red and I think we can all agree this is a step in the right direction but it has some very big loopholes in it and some alarming language as it refers to gratuitous violence, profanity and nudity as something that could be considered allowable.  I will be crafting a response / critique of this proposed amendment and I will present that during the public comment session.  I have other family members who are also going to speak but again I need community members and past present or future parents and students to be there and provide their comments or opinion on this matter.  If you are a person of faith, we need prayer over this board meeting.  If you have something you'd like to say and want me to take a look at it to help insure that it sounds logical, reasonable and not just like an angry rant, I'd be more than happy to help in any way I can.  I understand that people can get very angry about these issues and I don't blame anyone for being angry, but I think we lose the objective and the attention of the board members when we get to that point.  I'm having trouble sharing the link to the actual agenda so if anyone can help me out with that I would appreciate it.  Please share your thoughts in the comments and also share this post with anyone and everyone that you can and on any platforms that you have at your disposal.  If we want our kids to be as safe as possible both emotionally and mentally and physically while being educated, we need to be involved and speak on these important issues.  Thanks!
