- The Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs has made significant investments in Israel Bonds, currently totaling $100 million In support of the escalation of the genocide of Palestinians by Israel in October 2023, Treasurer Frerichs invested over $50 million in Israel Bonds. 80% of Israel Bonds directly support the Israeli military. The remaining 20% are used to fund free university education and universal health care in Israel, while Americans' public services are being defunded. Illinois is investing taxpayer money in a foreign government being investigated for war crimes against Palestinians.
