STOPPING CRSTS: ST MARY’S C of E
The Issue

My name is Sandip, and I am the Post Master at Broomfield Post Office. As part of the vibrant business community affected by the proposed highway measures around St Mary’s CofE Primary School in Reddish. This construction plan, although well-intentioned, poses serious challenges to local businesses, residents, and pensioners in our area.
Businesses like mine rely heavily on the accessibility and fluidity of local roads to thrive. Restrictive measures will deter customers, increase delivery times, and ultimately, could lead to significant financial losses. For us, these roads are vital lifelines that facilitate commerce and growth, and any impedance could result in devastating consequences.
Residents, too, will bear the brunt. The anticipated road closures and diversions will make daily commutes unnecessarily arduous, leading to increased travel times and heightened stress levels. For parents dropping kids off at school or workers commuting to their jobs, these disruptions could result in missed opportunities and increased costs.
Our elderly citizens, reliant on ease of access for essential services like healthcare and shopping, will find their independence threatened. Such measures could isolate them further, making it difficult to receive the care and community interaction they need.
We recognize the need for safety around schools, but there are alternative approaches that have proved effective elsewhere without such drastic impact. Enhanced pedestrian crossings, better traffic signage, and more active community officer presence are just a few solutions that merit consideration.
It is crucial that local authorities engage with the community – businesses, residents, and pensioners alike – to find a balanced, considerate approach that priorities both safety and our collective livelihoods.
Sign this petition to urge local decision-makers to reconsider these highway measures and work towards a solution that supports both safety and the prosperity of our community.
