We, the residents of La Ronge, SK, Canada are deeply concerned about the proposed zoning changes that would allow temporary shelters on commercially zoned C2 and C3 properties. This proposal particularly targets high-value downtown shoreline properties which are scarce in our town. The potential economic impact of this decision could be detrimental, For instance, 

• Closing a hotel to make way for a shelter could lead to job losses and reduce the town's appeal to tourists.
• The hosting of children's sports events or events in general would become challenging due to a lack of sufficient hotel space. This issue hinders the growth and development of our young athletes by limiting their opportunities for competition and camaraderie. Tourism related to youth sports and events contributes significantly to local economies across the country. However, without adequate accommodation facilities in La Ronge, we risk missing out on these potential benefits.
•  Implementing such a change goes against the La Ronge downtown revitalization plan that aims to boost our local economy and enhance our community's vibrancy. This proposed change could potentially deter new businesses from setting up shop and discourage visitors.
• Moreover, there are limited La Ronge Avenue properties left available for commercial use. These spaces are vital for local businesses that contribute significantly to our economy and community life. It's important that we preserve these areas for commercial growth rather than repurposing them as temporary shelters.

We believe there are better-suited locations within our town where such facilities can be established without disrupting the local economy or compromising the potential growth of our commercial sector.

We urge you to reconsider this proposal and explore alternative solutions that meet the needs of all community members without negatively impacting La Ronge's economic development or its tourism.

**Edit**    Kikinahk is looking to purchase the Waterbase Inn and convert it to a temporary shelter.  To do this the Town of La Ronge needs to amend bylaws for proper zoning. You can see the release on the Town of La Ronge website.
