The Issue

We, the residents of West Kendall, urgently call upon Miami-Dade County officials to reject Zoning Application Z2023000426, submitted by Secure Storage of Miami, Inc., which seeks to rezone a 4.44-acre property near SW 136th Street and SW 127th Avenue to permit the operation of a solid waste transfer facility. This proposed facility poses significant threats to our community: Proximity to Residential Areas: The site is adjacent to established neighborhoods, schools, and parks, risking the health and safety of families.
Environmental and Health Concerns: Waste transfer stations can emit unpleasant odors and attract pests, potentially leading to air and water pollution.
Traffic and Safety Issues: Increased heavy truck traffic on our local roads raises concerns about road safety and infrastructure strain.
Impact on Property Values: The presence of such a facility could lead to a decline in property values in the surrounding areas.
Aviation Safety Risks: The proposed site is less than two miles from Miami Executive Airport. Facilities like this can attract birds, increasing the risk of bird strikes and endangering air traffic.  On March 24, 2025, Community Zoning Appeals Board 11 unanimously denied this application, reflecting the community’s strong opposition. However, the applicant has appealed this decision. We urge the Miami-Dade County Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources and the Board of County Commissioners to: Uphold the denial of Zoning Application Z2023000426.
Protect our community’s health, safety, and quality of life by preventing the establishment of this facility.
Seek alternative solutions for waste management that do not compromise residential areas. Join us in safeguarding West Kendall. Sign this petition and share it with your neighbors, friends, and family. Together, we can make our voices heard and ensure a safe and healthy environment for all.
