Following the recent terrorist attack by Hamas on Israel, the oppression of Arab and Jewish pro-peace protesters against war has reached a new level in many German cities, and especially in Berlin. The videos of the way the police dealt with these protests in the latest weeks look as if they were coming from a dictatorship, not a capital of a country that calls itself a liberal democracy. A person appears in one video being prevented from sufficient breathing by the police merely for shouting "Free Palestine", another person was violently dragged and detained merely for raising the Palestinian flag as seen in source. Wearing the Palestinian Keffiyeh was prohibited as well. The speakers were confiscated during a protest for "anti-israeli statements". A policeman appears on another video repeatedly and heavily stricking and kicking a protester. In one protest, 127 people were arrested at one of the demonstrations that were banned.
After the protest ban, on the 18th of October, 2023, about 194 pro-Palestinian individuals were arrested after clashes with the police, 29 of them are minors.
A Jewish activist from "Jüdische Stimme für gerechten Frieden" (Jewish Voices for Just Peace) was detained for some time just for the words "Stop the genocide in Gaza" after the protest her organization called for was banned.
Police and judiciary is considering it a criminal offence to shout slogans like "From the river to the see, Palestine will be free" claiming it implies a "denial of the existence right of Israel" despite that Germany like some other Western countries did not recognise a Palestinian state and that Israel denied the right of Palestine to exist and Germany did not ban that denial. Banning only one side from denying the existence right of the other is a feature of an apartheid. Even the phrase Victory for Palestine "Sieg für Palästina" is forbidden, while "victory for Israel" is allowed, if not supported.
Only a mutual recognition of equal rights can provide a just solution to the conflict.
Instead of supporting justice for Palestinians and ICC’s authority to investigate the crimes done by Israel, almost all German politicians are siding with Israel, some of them are even calling for jailing, denaturalizing and deporting people who shout anti-Israel slogans.
The ban and censorship of both the Jewish voices for peace and Arab activists show that this discrimination has been an ongoing issue in Berlin against the non-Zionist Semites. Even a demonstration calling for peace and the two-state solution "Frieden in Nahost – Waffen-stillstand in Nah-Ost – Zwei-Staaten-Lösung" and one against racism "Jugend gegen Rassismus" were banned in Berlin.
This oppression is not consistent in Germany though. Major cities in the state of NRW have not banned pro-Palestinians protests, in Düsseldorf one of the protests was larger than those of Berlin and was still peaceful, which indicates that the ban justifications by Berlin were not plausible and the troubles in Berlin were apparently mainly a reaction to the police ban and violence. More than 1100 offences related to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict were registered in Berlin alone without banning their protests. Furthermore, real anti-Semitic German national far-right parties like the NPD (now called "Heimat") are allowed to demonstrate and even the Neonazi demonstrations are allowed and have increased in the first half of 2023 to 110 demonstrations, about three times more than the first half of 2022.
Berlin is silencing Palestinians in the public to the level, that on the rare demonstrations that get a permission, policemen investigate every poster to ensure that it has no anti-Israeli content, while some German media calls Hamas or the Palestinians "animals" quoting Israeli officials, ignores or plays down the Israeli crimes in Gaza and the suffering of its people while warning not to "relativise" the suffering of the Israeli victims to that of the Palestinians, despite the casualties of the Palestinians were already about 20 times more, as well as the detainees and the occupation and expulsion, giving the impression that Palestinians are much less of a human or „animal“. One regular guest on German TV (Ahmad Mansour) even justified on official TV to annihilate Gaza.
Besides the apartheid institutionalized by the German courts against the Palestinians, the Berlin Police used extreme violence against the protesters, illegally banned protestors from calling for peace, shamelessly prohibited candles for Gaza victims at Brandenburger Tor, in a protest officially banned by the Police Berlin which extinuished them with their feet!
Due to the political instrumentalization of the term Anti-Semitism by radical Zionists to discredit criticism of Israel crimes and violations of international law, the term has came to exclude hostility to other Semitic people like Arabs, but also non-Zionist Jewish Individuals and organizations.
This discrimination is also fuelled by xenophobia, considering the large number of Palestinians, Syrians and other Arabs in Berlin.
The support to Israel is disguised as historical moral responsibility, despite the fact that the Nazi-Germany's ideology of "Untermenschen" and crimes against the Russians did not prevent Germany from being anti-Russian.
And yes we do relativize, and so should you, as that is a measure of proportionality of response. According to UN OCHA numbers between 2008 and September 2023, Israelis killed 6407 Palestinians, that is about 20 times more than the number of Israelis killed by the Palestinians, i.e. 308. According to the statistics of B'tselem, since September 2000, the Palestinians killed by Israel are about 8 times more than the Israelis killed by the Palestinians. Thousands of Palestinians are imprisoned by Israel, including 1310 without a charge as "Administrative detainees" as of Sept 2023, now there are 2800 detained without charge after 07.10.
Still some want us to believe that terrorism is coming more from the Palestinians than from the Israeli army and settlers and that Israel is only defending itself, and not the Palestinians who are given no solution to free their land, stop demolishing their houses and free their detainees by those that are claiming the higher moral ground, even after about 20000 people were killed by Israel in Gaza.
We demand that Germany upholds the principle of Equality Before The Law, respects the freedom of speech and expression, stops detaining people for practicing these freedoms and the right to protest and express one’s views without oppressive and discriminatory conditions (Auflagen).
We also demand that Germany condemns Israel’s ongoing colonization, apartheid and expansionism, stops its support to Israel until it ends its aggression on Gaza and the West Bank, occupation of Palestinian land and respects international law.
Finally, we demand that Germany, the West and all nations call for an investigation of Israeli war crimes by the ICC.
