Our beloved Zeus was euthanized by the council, and they refuse to return his remains
The issue
9 June 2023 Note: Zeus, our beloved American Staffy, has tragically been euthanized by the council. They have refused to share any details or return his remains to us. We're now considering legal action against the council for their lack of transparency and respect for pet owners' rights. Your signatures are not just for Zeus, but for all pets unjustly treated. Help us demand justice for Zeus.

Our beloved Zeus, a 6-year-old American Staffy has been a part of our family since he was a puppy. Unfortunately, Zeus's adventurous nature has landed him in trouble, and his life is now at stake. The local council has threatened to put down our boy and is refusing to undertake a temperament test to give him a fair go. Right now, we don’t even know if Zeus is still alive!
Being denied a temperament assessment goes against countless legislations and conduct policies. I’m heartbroken at the callous way the council has been treating our case, even using the phrase “it’s just a dog”.
Growing up, Zeus has unfortunately become quite the escape artist, being able to escape from everything from a metal case, an 8 ft brick wall and everything in between, so you can imagine our endless fight to keep the bugger inside! During our endless fight to keep Zeus contained, he, unfortunately, had to be registered as a “dangerous and menacing” animal,
Anyone who has spent time with Zeus knows his classification is far from the truth. He's never attacked or injured another animal, and his 'dangerous' escapades include playfully surprising other pets. In fact, he was even in the process of lifting his dangerous dog status due to being such a good boy during visits.
Recently, when Zeus was being escorted from the house to the car to go for a drive, a cat jumped out of the bushes, scaring him and causing him to run up the road. He was picked up by local authorities and taken to Kiama dog impound. Kiama Council issued a seizure notice, denying him a temperament assessment, and decided to euthanize Zeus.
During some incredibly tough years, Zeus has been a constant companion, especially for my mother. The thought of losing him is unbearable, Zeus, has done nothing wrong other than being his energetic self. That's why we're fighting this decision, and we need your help to save Zeus.
We've started a petition to gather support and show the authorities that Zeus is loved and is no threat to anyone. Every signature counts, and your support could be the difference between life and death for our Zeus.
