Stop Youth Suicide by Protecting Trans Youth in New Hampshire

The Issue

There are an estimated 450+ transgender youths aged 13-17 in New Hampshire. How many of them get important gender-affirming care? 0. This is due to House Bill 377, a New Hampshire house bill that restricts all Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) for individuals under the age of 18. Due to this bill, 450+ children are forced to writhe in a body that is not their own.

As a transgender youth myself, I have experienced this state's hostility towards LGBTQ+ people firsthand. Not only this, but many of my trans peers experience the exact same woes as me. If this bill gets repealed, we will not only be able to consult trusted adults about our body and how to change it to meet our needs, but also get the requisite medication and care needed to make the most of our formative years. There is no stigma around wearing a different color of jacket or different shoes. Why is there stigma around changing our bodies? Our bodies should be another way to express ourselves, not a ball and chain. And yes, HRT is reversible, if that is your greatest worry.

I ask you this: Do you think trans youths exist? Do you think trans youths deserve to live? If both answers were yes, you should sign this petition. If you think that second question is much more dire than reality, studies show it may even be an understatement. According to the findings of Ronita Nath, a researcher at the Trevor Project, there is a direct and strong link between the passing of anti-transgender legislation and youth suicide. It could happen to your family. To your children. To your friends. Tell me this: Is it worth having children and teens kill themselves over your political aversion to trans youth care? If the answer is no, then sign this petition.
