Stop yearly rent increases in trailer parks
The Issue
For many residents living in trailer parks, the annual increase in lot rent is not just an inconvenience—it's a threat to their home and livelihood. My own experience with such hikes opened my eyes to the struggles faced by our community. More often than not, we choose to live in trailer parks because they are one of the few affordable housing options available to those with lower incomes. Unfortunately, the constant rise in lot rent costs—sometimes by $85 to $100 each year—undermines this supposed affordability.
Each year, I've watched as neighbors, fearing another financial squeeze, are forced to sell their mobile homes or struggle to make ends meet. This is not an isolated issue; this affects thousands across our country who find themselves facing financial hardship simply because they cannot keep up with the increasing costs of remaining in the modest homes they've invested in.
Moreover, residents like us find ourselves with limited rights or freedoms when it comes to making improvements or changes to our lots. Simple wishes, like installing a fence or adding a playground for our children, are curtailed by park management rules which offer little to no flexibility or consideration for the well-being of our families.
This pattern of annual rent hikes is unacceptable, unsustainable, and must be addressed. One tangible solution is enforcing legislation that caps rent increases in trailer parks or, better yet, freezes them to reflect the actual living conditions and income of residents. Some states, such as Oregon, have already implemented such measures, limiting rent hikes to a sensible 7% per year, providing a balance between fair expectations from landlords and affordability for the tenants.
We need to act now and demand a fair policy that protects the rights and homes of trailer park residents from being compromised any further.
I urge all concerned individuals to sign this petition in calling on our local representatives, housing regulators, and policy makers to urgently address this pressing issue. Support us in getting a commitment to reasonable and fair rental policies for trailer parks. Our homes are worth the fight.
Please sign this petition to call for immediate action to prevent unjust rent increases in trailer parks. Together, we can advocate for a fair and sustainable living environment for all residents.
