Yarra City Council’s Transport Action Plan 2024-2034 intends to drastically slash the number of available parking spots for residents and visitors. The plan outlines the removal of angle parking from our streets, decreasing the parking in affected areas by up to a whopping 66%!

Parking across the entire City of Yarra is already difficult. Residents find themselves competing with visitors for available parking spaces, which only gets worse on weekends. A reduction in the number of available spaces with the increasing population of City of Yarra only spells disaster for residents and business. 

The Transport Action Plan further allows for the development of multi-unit dwelling without any parking for tenants or their guests - more rates for Yarra City Council, with decreased amenities for rate-payers and residents.

The promotion of green policies by Government is important, but these policies must be balanced with the current needs and future needs of citizens.  Consider disabled individuals, parents with small children, tradespeople with tools and equipment, or commuters who’s routes are not serviced by public transport… all of these people rely on parking close to home, and that is already a challenge at the best of times.  Removing angle parking does nothing to actually remove vehicles from the road, and will only congest our streets further.  

Yarra City Council is elected to represent YOU! It’s time for them to be transparent and to stop implementing massive changes to our community in the shadows.
