Stop Workplaces Getting Away With Poor Culture, Introduce Inclusion & Belonging Reporting

Stop Workplaces Getting Away With Poor Culture, Introduce Inclusion & Belonging Reporting
The Issue
Everyone deserves to feel they belong and that they matter at work, regardless of their race, colour, nationality, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, neurodiversity, mental health, age, religion or belief, pregnancy or maternity, marriage or civil partnership status, socioeconomic background, caring responsibilities, language, accent, culture, or lived experience.
Too many people go to work every day feeling unseen, unheard, or like they have to shrink themselves just to be accepted. And the truth is, this doesn’t just happen to a few people. It happens to people across every part of the ED&I spectrum.
People are judged for their race or skin colour.
They’re treated differently because of their gender or their sexuality.
They’re excluded because of a disability, visible or invisible.
They’re underestimated because of their age.
They’re sidelined because of their religion.
They’re misunderstood because of neurodiversity.
They’re dismissed because of their background, their accent, or where they grew up.
And sometimes it’s not even one of those things. Sometimes it’s just the constant feeling of being “other”. Like you don’t quite fit. Like you have to perform a version of yourself that feels acceptable to everyone else.

That is what belonging is.
Belonging is safety.
Belonging is dignity.
Belonging is being able to walk into work and breathe, without fear of judgement, exclusion, or punishment for simply being who you are.
Right now in the UK, there is no mandatory requirement for organisations with 50 or more employees to measure and report on workplace inclusion and belonging. Without measurement and transparency, it becomes too easy for belonging to be treated as “nice to have”, instead of something that impacts people’s mental health, confidence, performance, and whether they stay or leave.
This petition is about accountability. It’s about moving past statements and slogans, and making inclusion something we can actually measure, understand, and improve.
Because everyone deserves to feel they belong at work, and that they matter, regardless of their identity, background, or lived experience.
