Stop Winchester City Council's Attack on Democracy! Vote 'NO' on R-2024-40!

Stop Winchester City Council's Attack on Democracy! Vote 'NO' on R-2024-40!
The Issue
On December 10th, Winchester City Council tabled a resolution (R-2024-40) to be voted on with the newly-elected city council on January 14th that could significantly restrict citizens' participation in council meetings. The proposed changes include:
- Reducing individual speaking time from 3 minutes to 90 seconds
- Limiting total public comment period to 30 minutes
- Implementing new restrictions on public participation
These changes will affect every resident's ability to address council on any issue, from local development to public services.
We will not stand by while our elected officials strip away our democratic rights!
This flagrant attack on our democracy comes in the wake of persistent demands from residents for the council to vote on and pass a ceasefire resolution. The people of Winchester deserve to have our voices heard, whether the issue is Palestine or public transportation, storm water or affordable housing.
The Council has refused to take a principled stance on human rights violations. Now they are demonstrating clearly where they stand on our civil liberties!
Sign the petition today demanding that the newly-elected City Council vote 'NO' on R-2024-40 and join us on January 14th at 6pm at Rouss City Hall (15 N Cameron St) to stand up for our democratic rights!
A democracy works best when citizens can meaningfully engage with their representatives. Join us in advocating for continued access to local government decision-making!
