Stop wildlife deaths on A35 and A354 Dorset

The Issue

How many dead animals do we see on Dorset roads? Keep reading, this is just a section of the roads.

This petition affects everyone who uses our main roads in Dorset, particularly the A35.

Animals like deer, badgers, foxes and hedgehogs die on this road everyday.

Collisions with deer, Figs from the Deer Society, 20,000 - 42,000  annually across the UK, sadly some of these collisions involve people, 400-700 people are injured whilst 20 people have died.

Many of these accidents involving animals go unreported, so the figures go up and up.

Figures in Dorset, January 2024 - November 2024 Police reported 11 RTCs involving animals.

Incidents with animals on our country roads sadly go unaccounted.

For example from 31 May 2025 - 25 June 2025, these are the amount of dead animals that have been reported to me via my Wildlife Group,

May 2025 - A35 Towards Poole - 2 deer's

May 2025 - A35 West from Dorchester - Winterbourne Abbas where the road goes through the woodland, several dead deer's

June 2025 - A35 East Bound before Troytown 3 dead badgers

June 2025 - A31 East Bound before Ferndown turn off, 1 dead badger

June 2025 - A350 Westbound by Speitsbury 1 dead badger

June 2025 - A35 East Bound 1 deer, Weymouth 1 big deer

June 2025 - Dead fox

25 June 2025 - 4 dead badgers

Our wildlife is at stake here, even peoples lives, does this need to go on?

No we can make changes, Fences at the side of roads that go through woodlands/forests, more warning signs alerting drivers, signs including how many deaths on the road.

Wildlife signs have proven to reduce collisions by alerting drivers to high-risk areas.  More signs mean awareness and more awareness means fewer animals killed.

We urge Dorset councils to help with this please.

By signing this petition you are helping us make Dorset's roads safer for everyone.

Lets protect our countryside and the creatures that call it home.

Also we would like wildlife warning signs on the A354 Weymouth Relief Road, deer live in the fields on each side of the road.  The speed limit is 50/60, the poor animals don't stand a chance, signs would hopefully make drivers aware, please help with this x thank you
