Stop WI from passing a bill that puts out of state interests first

The Issue

AB 511 is a proposed bill in the WI house that will grant Michigan log trucks increased access onto the Wi highway system.

Allowing Michigan trucks to travel further in to our state will cause our infrastructure to crumble as it is not designed to hold up to loads weighing 164,000 lbs. Michigan Highways are built to withstand the weight and abuse of these trucks while ours are not.

This bill is being touted by saying Michigan trucks are more efficient. A Michigan truck moves on average 50-55 tons of wood while averaging 1.5-2 miles per gallon. Wisconsin haulers can move on average 30 tons of wood while averaging 5-5.5 miles per gallon. The vast majority of us have spent a significant amount of money to upgrade our equipment to be emissions compliant and as efficient as possible. Most of us are already able to be loaded in both directions as it is.

These Michigan producers can already deliver to every one of our Wisconsin mills as long as they adhere to the Wisconsin weight limit of 98,000 lbs. Allowing them to haul in heavier loads only benefits out of state producers and companies while causing our mills to be over supplied causing Wisconsin loggers and truckers to have less markets to move our own timber.

We need to stop this now! Allowing this bill to pass will cause additional strain on our infrastructure and unnecessary hardships on our working families that make their living in the woods of Wisconsin. Say NO to AB 511! Please contact your representative and Senator and tell them this bill is bad for Wisconsin as well!
