Help us Save the Iconic Wyndford High Flats!!

The Issue

We, the residents of the Wyndford Estate, are campaigning to stop the proposed demolition of 4 blocks of high flats on the Wyndford Estate, Maryhill, Glasgow.

  • We believe the high flats are beautiful examples of architect Harold Buteux’s and SSHA’s vision of design-led housing built for residents’ health and well-being which harmoniously exist in mature landscaped gardens.
  • We have applied to Historic Environment Scotland for the flats to be considered for listing - listing no: 300061248.
  • We must maintain the integrity of the beautiful Wyndford Estate as an excellent example of mid-century housing innovation and design, increasingly a rarity in 21st century Britain.
  • If the proposed demolition goes ahead the 600 essential units of social housing will be lost and replaced with unaffordable "mid-market" rental properties at a time of housing and cost of living crises.
  • The environmental cost of demolishing the EPC C rated buildings is horrendous and a wasteful destruction of buildings that have new kitchens, glazing, cladding, electrics, district heating system and fire alarm systems recently installed.
  • The buildings could be retro-fitted and reconfigured inside to make them wonderful examples of Glasgow City Council actively committing to achieving its Net Zero Target for 2030.
  • A very fine and cost effective (compared to demolition and rebuild) example of PassivHaus refit is to be seen just up the road at award-winning Cedar Court in Woodside, Glasgow.

Please help us stop the Wheatley Group needlessly destroying our homes and heritage.  Sign our petition so we can enlist the support of Patrick Harvie, (Co-leader of Scottish Greens & Minister for Zero Carbon Buildings, Active Travel & Tenants' Rights) and Shona Robison (Secretary for Housing).

Thank you so much for your time and support.
