"CMS Permits Insurers to Halt Commissions Mid-Enrollment: Urgent Call for CMS Intervention
The Issue
Subject: Join HAFA’s Call to Action: Demand Fair Treatment for Agents and Protect American Seniors!
Dear Colleagues and Supporters,
The Health Agents for America (HAFA) stands with agents across the nation, advocating for fair practices and protecting the livelihood of those who dedicate their careers to helping American seniors navigate complex healthcare decisions. Today, we need your support more than ever.
Recently, CMS permitted several Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D carriers to halt commission payments to agents in the middle of the Open Enrollment period—even after rates were approved and contracts signed. This action leaves dedicated agents without the income they depend on, after they’ve already invested their time and expertise to support seniors through the enrollment process. No one in these companies is expected to work without pay, and agents shouldn’t be treated differently.
The impact of this decision goes far beyond agents. American seniors are the ones who suffer, as fewer agents will be able to afford to provide the vital guidance that helps seniors make informed choices about their healthcare. HAFA’s mission is to ensure that independent agents are fairly compensated and supported, so they can continue to serve the seniors who rely on them.
Join HAFA in calling on CMS and these carriers to honor their commitments to agents and uphold the integrity of Medicare support. By signing this petition, you’re supporting the leading association that represents independent health agents and brokers across the nation. Your voice helps HAFA remain a strong advocate for agents, ensuring that our healthcare system remains fair and accessible for all.
Sign the petition today and stand with HAFA in defending agents, protecting seniors, and demanding the respect our industry deserves.
Thank you for standing with us,
B. Ronnell Nolan, HIA
President/CEO, Health Agents for America (HAFA)
