Stop pollution

Imagine an ocean full of many fish, all diverse. The ocean is clear blue water. Kids are splashing in the waves. But now beaches are being destroyed by pollution, overfishing, and rubbish. There are no fish, only dark, murky water. Beaches are so polluted that it is a health risk to swim. This is what is happening right now, and in a few years, there will be beaches and no fish. We must stop this right now!

How will the loss of fish affect humans?

Humans need fish to survive. It is an essential nutrient for the human body. If there are no fish, you will miss out on all your favorite meals. Fish eat microplastics that are in the water. Then humans fish this out, cut it up, and feed it to their families. Every time you eat fish, you are consuming microplastics. When humans end the pollution, this won't be an issue. There are people around the world who don't have clean water. Polluted water contains cholera and typhoid.  These cause severe dehydration and stomach pain. This is not what people should drink. We need to filter or stop littering.

How does overfishing impact the environment?

Overfishing is one of the many problems contributing to declines in marine ecosystem populations. People use trawlers to catch only one species. They catch hundreds of fish and kill all of them. They only save the one fish they need. They then dump all the dead fish back into the ocean. An example of overfishing is the Darwinian harvest. All of the bigger fish were caught before they could breed, leaving only the smaller fish to breed. Meaning the fish are going to become smaller and smaller. Normally, the bigger fish are predators, so if all the predators are getting fished up, it causes a change in the food chain, leading to a decrease in the population.

What can you do

You can do something about this. Take part in beach clean-ups. Recycle plastic. Donate to charities. But to the government. Overfishing should be banned; we shouldn't be able to take hundreds of fish out of the water just to kill them. This needs to be illegal. People should be charged for littering, as it is killing animals. But every action makes a difference. You can do something about this.
