Dear Supporters,

Firstly, thank you, from the bottom of our hearts for your signature support. You showed up in your tens of thousands to sign this petition over the last 2+ years, since war broke out in Sudan.

Devastatingly, war is still raging in Sudan. What's more devastating is the world isn't paying attention.

Yes, there are other conflicts around the globe where people are suffering immeasurably, and these conflicts *must* be stopped. There is no competition when it comes to human suffering. Sudanese deserve the same attention, support and action.

With a population of 50 million people:

-Sudan has the world's worst humanitarian crisis. Famine conditions are affecting 24.6 million who are facing acute hunger, according to the World Food Programme. 2.6 million are facing famine or risk of famine.

-Sudan is the world's largest and fastest displacement crisis. 12+ million people have been displaced since April 2023, with at least 4 million people - mostly women and children - who have fled to neighbouring countries.

-Sudan has the world's worst protection of civilians crisis. As reported by the International Rescue Committee (IRC), civilians are subject to frequent attacks and human rights violations while the country’s health care system has collapsed.

-While some reports indicate Sudan is embroiled in a 'civil war', this narrative is not correct. This is a war on civilians.

-Sexual violence is being used as a weapon of war by warring parties on the bodies of women and girls especially, but also men and boys. As SIHA Network reports, sexual violence is of epidemic proportion in Sudan.

The Guardian reported key moments in Sudan since April 2023, a timeline of sorts that provides context and information about where Sudan is today.

Sudanese have been on the front lines, in every aspect of this war. Not only as victims but as proactive defenders of freedom, peace, justice, fighting for equality for all Sudanese citizens, working towards an equitable society. Sudanese diaspora throughout the globe have not had a moment's peace in over two years, as they work tirelessly to raise awareness, raise their voices through campaigns and media, raise money for their people in Sudan, create innovative ways of providing medical support, often remotely; develop programmes for displaced children in neighbouring countries who are now in refugee camps.

What can you do?

  • write to your elected official (MP, Congress-person, Senator or equivalent) tell them you need them to take action to stop the war in Sudan, and end human suffering
  • find your local Sudanese community, ask what they need and how you can help
  • learn about what is happening in Sudan and bear witness, and if you have Sudanese friends/colleagues, let them know you are an ally; that you understand their exhaustion, you see their pain as well as their courage and resilience
  • share this petition as widely as possible!
  • donate to local Sudanese efforts, local activities and Sudanese civil society organisations that are doing credible and life-saving work in support of the people affected in Sudan and displaced people in neighbouring countries
  • remember the children, who are existing without education, without intact families, without food and water or access to sanitation, who may be born of rape; children who long to play with their friends, go to school, play football, read books, dream of their futures.

A personal message from a Sudanese doctor in the UK:

As a children’s doctor who cares deeply about children's wellbeing, I try to support Sudanese in any way possible as the situation in Sudan, and for displaced Sudanese, is dire. My recent urgent call-to-action project is setting up a 'medical camp' where Sudanese medical colleagues and I travelled to Uganda. Drawing from my medical expertise, I set up and managed a clinic for children with allergies, alongside other Sudanese medical colleagues offering their expertise - at their own personal expense - in their speciality areas. Alongside the clinic we provided a safe play area. Children who fled the war are denied access to play. Play is a fundamental need for their development. I will be going back in December 2025, planning another initiative with three Sudanese professionals from the UK. Our initiative is called "Tiny Steps". Through this initiative we will empower three teachers among the refugee community to provide mobile children’s play areas, and educational support. We are hoping to include psychologists as well. Over the next 12 months our plan is to organise 10-12 safe play areas whenever there is a paediatric clinic in different parts of Uganda. All donations will be used to pay for educational and play games as well as the cost of travelling and basic expenses for the teachers, and hopefully the psychologists.

Thank you again for your signature support for this petition. Please share this update as widely as possible. We are grateful.
