Imagine waking up every day to the serenity of nature, with the sounds of chirping birds through the tress and and the Appalachias stretching out like a hymn across the horizon. Our home, our history, and our way of life shouldn’t be ripped apart for someone else’s profit. This is the life we have known and cherished in Greene County, and the city of Greeneville, even impactingTusculum and Washington County.However, a shadow looms over our community. 

Vulcan Materials, a nationwide corporation, is proposing to rezone over 1,200 acres of our cherished land to M1 for mining sand and gravel. Their planned operations threaten not only our homes' health and safety but also our community's very foundation. Our property directly borders 336+ of these proposed acres, and we are not alone. Many roads and properties are similarly affected, threatening the quality of life for countless families.

Beyond the immediate risks to our health with potential dust and pollution exacerbating respiratory issues, this rezoning venture endangers our local ecosystem. The constant drilling and heavy machinery operations would disrupt wildlife habitats, leading to a cascading effect on biodiversity.

Furthermore, traffic congestion will undoubtedly worsen as roads become clotted with industrial vehicles, increasing the risk of accidents and extended travel times. The rezoning will also adversely impact our water tables and quality. This is a concern every resident of Greeneville should worry about, as the effects of mining practices are long-lasting and far-reaching.

Economically, this move will depreciate property values in the area significantly. Our homes are not just investments; they are legacies passed down from one generation to the next. Destroying this means uprooting the heritage that so many residents, including us, hold dear.

We believe that our local leaders should prioritize the well-being of Greeneville's residents over corporate interests. The risk to public health, environmental sanctity, and family legacies is too high a price to pay.
