For my entire life, I have witnessed the beauty and richness of our farmland, land that has been worked by my family for generations. My father's farm ground sits adjacent to the proposed site for Viking Aggregate's quarry, which threatens to irreversibly change the landscape and character of our community.

The proposed quarry will not only disrupt the peaceful rural lifestyle that residents hold dear, but it will also pose significant risks to our local environment and infrastructure. The noise, dust, and pollution from the quarry operations will harm local ecosystems, threaten wildlife habitats, and affect the health of our community. Moreover, the quarry's constant operations are expected to last for 30 years, placing a long-term burden on our community's natural resources.

The presence of this quarry will also lead to increased traffic, posing considerable safety risks for residents and visitors alike. The local orchard, a beloved community landmark, could be seriously impacted by the heightened risk of accidents and congestion on our roads. These safety concerns are not just inconvenient; they are dangerous and could have catastrophic consequences for the people living in Story County and those who visit the orchard.

There are better ways to utilize and preserve our cherished land than by allowing it to be devastated by industrial activity. Instead of approving this quarry, we should explore sustainable alternatives that benefit both the environment and the economy of Story County.
