Unfortunately we were unsuccessful in convincing Victoria City Council to reject this rezoning application. Council voted 7-2 in favour to move it past 3rd reading, with only Counsellors Gardener and Hammond voting against.

The Mayor did add an amendment which asks city staff to investigate further with Transport Canada, the implications of the proposed buildings on the flight path of the Victoria Harbour. In essence if the development as outlined in the rezoning were built, it is suggested it would eliminate one runway from the current operating airport for float planes.
Despite acknowledging many of the legitimate objections to the development, council members decided to hold their noses and look past all the flaws they saw and voted to build it anyway because “we need more housing”. and getting this development was “better than nothing”.

Sadly Victoria may pay the price for these significant compromises and concessions.

Thank you to all who spoke up, turned up and made an effort.
