STOP VCU: Give December 2026 Engineering Grads their Ceremony!
The Issue
GOAL: Encourage VCU Engineering to host a December departmental graduation ceremony for December 2026 and/or future December graduates.
On October 12, 2026, VCU College of Engineering has announced to all December 2026 Engineering graduates that, unlike other departments, we will not be receiving a departmental ceremony and will have to come back to VCU in May to complete our graduation. This information came out mid-October, and many students have already informed family members who have accommodated travel plans to see their graduate walk.
VCU also encouraged engineering graduates to attend the university-wide commencement, completely lacking the acknowledgement that many students planned a December graduation around future relocations and/or current lifestyles. For an institution with VCU's resources and leadership compensation, the lack of communication and complete dismissal of Engineering graduates is absolutely unacceptable.
We worked just as hard, paid the same tuition, and many of us are moving out of state or have other obligations. Sign this petition to help encourage VCU to host a December diploma ceremony.
**We were informed that the VCU School of Arts is also going through a similar change as of last year. I encourage the school of arts students to advocate to do the same, and will mention this to anyone I email for this issue. Thank you!**
