Stop using the “6 7” phrase!

The Issue

A recent discomfort has found a presence in these otherwise joyous moments. One of my friends, along with the hosts and some audience members on one of my favorite TV shows, has started using the phrase "6 7" in such a way that would be annoying and disturbing. This also hits even closer to home now that my mom, a wonderful and dignified woman, has recently turned 67. The thought of her, or anyone for that matter, being subjected to jokes or references surrounding their age, particularly "6 7," fills me with both concern and frustration. Age should be celebrated, not ridiculed in coded jokes or offhand comments. The use of "6 7" in this annoying context must come to an end, starting now. This requires collective action from us, as a society, who consume and, occasionally, perpetuate them through engagement without protest. I urge you to consider how such phrases can impact real lives. Words have power, and their misuse can perpetuate stereotypes, influence perceptions, and contribute to age discrimination, not to mention the emotional distress individuals might face. We can start with our favorite TV shows, directly addressing producers, hosts, and even fellow viewers, encouraging more respectful dialogue and content creation. Together, we can foster a culture that honors every stage of life and dismisses derogatory age-related phrases from our screens. Please join me in signing this petition to take a stand against ageist language, ensuring that words find no place in our entertainment or everyday dialogue. Your signature can make a significant impact. Thank you so much for your time to read and sign this petition, together we can make a difference once and for all!
