Stop using our green spaces to hold fenced off events
Why this petition matters
After a couple of years of advancements to the beauty of the Valley Gardens scheme in Brighton in the UK in which trees and plants and walk ways were created to enhance the area, the Brighton council have made decisions to block off certain areas of beauty for events often for weeks at a time.
Unfortunately this causes damage to the plants, trees and the grass from having heavy machinery, fencing and sometimes antisocial behavour due to the nature of certain events, destroying the natural surroundings. At the Christmass market a sink well appeared in Victoria gardens and large areas of the grassland flooded.
No one wants to prevent the local community from enjoying events in Brighton so all we ask is that they be staggered. One year we had the fair ground at the Level, the Lady Boys at St Peters, the Warren at Victoria Gardens and the Spiegle tent at the Old Steine all at the same time, all in one area, blocking local residents, some with out gardens, using these outstanding areas of beauty.
This also affects local residents in other ways due to noise pollution and rubbish dumping.
Plus just as the area is recovering and the grass growing back another event is held.
We would like the council to look into the effect these events have on the local community and the stress they cause.
