This petition impacts many thousands of consumer who sign up for a retailer credit card serviced through Comenity Bank (Bread Financial). This impacts over 80 retailers and their customers.

Comenity Bank is known for their lack of ethics and lack of fair treatment of consumers. They are known to have inaccurate and tardy reporting, resulting in wrongful credit card late fees penalties and interest and severely damaging consumer credit report scores. Comenity is known to not be responsive to their consumers and have 3 active alerts on the BBB to which they have not responded to. Their systems are often down, but continue to penalize customers despite the inability to even access their accounts. If you are to read through the BBB complaints, lives and financial credit reports have been damaged over and over by Comenity/Bread, and they lack any concern to resolve the matter for consumers. Many complaints have also mentioned customer support being unreachable, hanging up on them multiple times, etc. I can confirm the same is true for myself.

There have been known outages and inability for consumers to access accounts and pay their balances since March (Comenity merger with Bread, and then July. https://www.dispatch.com/story/business/2022/07/01/bread-financial-comenity-bank-waives-credit-card-fees-system-outage/7780954001/ Comenity promised to waive late charges and that they would not report to the credit bureaus. This is not the case. Consumers are getting dinged on their credit scores in a December submission from Comenity for account activity from July (activity that is very likely not their fault).

Our request is for the retailers using Comenity Bank, to break their relationship with Comenity and seek an alternate credit card provider. Retailers should not continue to put their customers through the abuse that is continuing to occur at the hands of Bread Financial. Retailers should provide safe options for their loyal customers who want to support them via a store credit card. Comenity does not care about the consumer, but they will care if their retail clients drop their credit card partnerships. This is the only way to ensure future consumers will be protected by the extremely damaging interactions with Comenity Bank.
