As a student of Franklin Academy, I can say with confidence that the use of AI in my school has become concerning. Every student has noticed the use of generative AI for almost everything in our school!

When it comes to things such as morning announcements, posters, and overall advertising in general, Franklin Academy almost ALWAYS uses AI in their flyers. (Provided some examples below) As an IB school, we are taught the characteristics of an IB scholar, one of which being creativity. I think that the pinnacle of killing creativity is in fact using generative AI, doesn’t this go against this very concept that we are being taught? This school fosters hundreds of creative minds, the school could implement a program having students design our posters and announcements and in return offer community service hours. Honestly, it’s almost to a point of no return and our school truly needs an alternative, knowing the dangers and effects of AI onto our community.

It’s no surprise that generative AI has been damaging our world’s ecosystem, and I believe that as humans having only one Earth to survive on, we need to take care of it as much as we can. Furthermore, with our school neighboring our states treasure of the Everglades, we should take care and teach our students to care and contribute towards their ecosystem. What will happen when big AI companies perhaps buy out our ecosystems around us? The sooner we tackle the issue of our dependence on AI, the more we become educated on its adverse effects, and I believe the best way to teach this is by not advertising AI and normalizing in our school setting.
