Stop unsafe housing development in Tenambit - Reasonable planning

The Issue

Fellow residents, we are calling on our community and local authorities to join forces and halt the irresponsible housing development being forced upon us. This development threatens to transform our once serene neighborhood into a congested, unsafe environment. Right here, where our children play and we gather as neighbours and friends, this unplanned project is being rushed without adequate consideration of its long-term impacts. Many have already voiced their concerns, but Council and developer have not listened or engaged.

Overcrowding and lack of proper infrastructure are at the heart of the issue. Studies have shown that high-density housing without appropriate support systems can lead to increased traffic, strain on public services, and decreased property values. Professional Associations highlights the importance of thoughtful urban planning to prevent communities from becoming unlivable.

The planned development here brings with it the risk of turning our neighbourhood into an unsafe ghetto.

*Emergency services cannot access the units in the event of an accident or fire.

*Having 15 families in the space of 3 and 1/2 house blocks is overcrowded and concerning for child safety with car and truck access.

*The ground works and retaining walls do not address big rain events

*Two storeys with a  rise in built ground level brings lack of privacy to the whole block

*Council have removed a planned road, disadvantaging all other owners who lose the ability to develop the back of their blocks, sacrificed to one infill development project.

As residents who deeply value the character and safety of our neighbourhood, we must act swiftly and unitedly to voice our concerns and demand a halt on construction until a more thoughtful, community-centric plan is devised.

Our vision is clear: Encourage responsible development that includes comprehensive community engagement, environmental assessments, and genuine efforts to enhance our community—rather than degrade it. We urge the NSW Ombudsman, local planners and authorities to reassess this project, listen to the citizens whose lives will be directly impacted, and prioritize sustainable livable environments. This development sets a concerning precedent for the horrible cramped environments and conditions in which people, especially children will be forced to live. We do want to encourage development, but it must be well planned and safe.

Your signature can make a significant impact on bringing this matter to the forefront of local government and ensure our voices are heard loud and clear. Please sign this petition today to preserve the safety and integrity of our beloved community.
