I am a student attending Etiwanda High School, a school in the Chaffey Joint Union High School District. On today, March 11th, 2026, during our lunch, there was a couple of tables, music, and people dancing in order to express their sexual orientation; under a rainbow banner reading "Be proud of who you are". There was no special events or assembly going on today; the only other people displaying anything were Army recruiters. The people associated with the sexual display were soliciting and forcing their sexual beliefs onto other students who did not have any interest in the matter. More concerningly, by allowing such sexual topics to be openly displayed in schools, we risk pornographic solicitation; keeping in mind that it is illegal to sexually solicit a minor.

While the school does have a LGBTQ+ "pride club", and identity is not a harmful thing in itself, I believe that sexual identity and orientation should remain something that a student keeps to themselves. Vibrant, open displays and celebrations of such, especially unprovoked, are not suitable for a learning environment as they do not help promote a future career path or a subject related to education. I believe, and I believe that many others do too, that schools should be a place where people are able to learn without distraction; including sexual solicitation.
