The Issue

In New York state shelters, far too many healthy and treatable animals are being euthanized unnecessarily. Shelters across the state share a collective responsibility to provide animals with a life worth living, yet every year significant numbers of animals are euthanized rather than being rehomed. The ASPCA estimates that approximately 1.5 million shelter animals are euthanized (670,000 dogs and 860,000 cats) each year in the US (source: ASPCA). This number is disproportionately high in New York State, where fewer resources are provided for animal care and rehoming facilities. Our beloved animal friends deserve better. It is time for New York state to take a stronger stand against this devastating situation and explore new solutions such as increasing funds for animal care, creating more comprehensive spay and neuter programs, and revamping adoption strategies. Let's raise our voice and end this deadly trend of unnecessary animal euthanasia in New York State Shelters. Please sign this petition to save countless innocent lives.
