Hello everyone, I spoke with a representative of Housing and Residence Life (HRL) today and I received this response:
"[HRL] would encourage you when people are hot ... to have them fill out a work order on top of feeling the way they feel."
There is a system in place to track and document issues such as room temperature problems, including when they are reported and the actions taken to address them. This serves as a way to ensure accountability, making it clear when an issue is prevalent.
Some individuals might find it redundant to submit multiple work orders for the same problem. Moreover, the University already has mechanisms to monitor dorm temperatures through means like thermostats in each room.
If you still wish to submit a work order, you can do so by clicking the provided link and mentioning the discomfort in your room due to high temperatures. It's not entirely clear how this would lead to an effective solution, and that's part of the issue. Resident advisors have already raised this problem with the facilities department, but the response received was to "wait until it gets colder," which doesn't address the real issue. The problem is not lack of awareness but rather a lack of effective action.
We appreciate your support, and we hope that the University will work to resolve this in the future.
