We, the nurses at UnityPoint Health - Des Moines Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Blank Children’s Hospital, Methodist West Hospital, and Iowa Lutheran Hospital, are united in our commitment to advocating for the rights and well-being of registered nurses and the patients we serve. Through solidarity and collective action, we seek to secure safe staffing ratios, improved healthcare benefits, fair compensation, and improved working conditions that prioritize the health and safety of both patients and registered nurses.

Our mission is to empower nurses to create a healthier, more sustainable future for all healthcare professionals, not only within UnityPoint Health, but also the communities we serve throughout the state of Iowa.

With the successful formation of this Union, we will have real representation to negotiate a legally binding contract seeking to ensure:

Nurses at UnityPoint Health have come together to form a Union with the Teamsters. Since making this decision the hospitals have engaged in an anti-union campaign full of misinformation. Iowa ranks 48th in the nation for nurse compensation. (nurse.org, 2024) Inadequate wages, along with insufficient benefits, significantly contribute to staffing challenges by intensifying nurse burnout, lowering retention rates, and perpetuating ongoing nursing shortages. We are seeking to improve both our community and our lives.
