Stop Unicoi Mayor Kathy Bullen from Cutting Our Animal Shelter Funding!!
The Issue
Mayor Kathy Bullen CUT Funding our Unicoi County Animal Shelter by OVER 30%! Please read, sign and share. Let's be the voice for Unicoi animals that will be the ones who suffer from this budget cut.
Dear Mayor Bullen,
We recently became aware that you have significantly cut our animal shelter’s budget from $45,000/year to $30,000 and this has not only caused disappointment in you and your administration, but also has raised significant concerns, and we persuade you to reconsider this extreme budget cut that is detrimental to our animal shelter that already suffers from under funding. A $15K/year cut is a years salary for one employee so they now risk losing an employee when they only have 10 employees to run the shelter (2 FT, 8 PT). The shelter already has to fundraise to pay their electricity bill, buy food, litter and medications for the animals, make any repairs, etc. Reports show that the volume of stray, abused, neglected, seized, discarded and surrendered animals are sadly increasing across Unicoi, so if anything, you should be increasing your funding, not cutting it. We are dismayed at the number of animals that will now suffer due to your budget cut, and of course folks will point fingers at the shelter when they need to point them at you, but you can fix this! On behalf of the animals in our county we look forward to your reconsideration to Fully Fund our animal shelter.
