Hey everyone!

Have you ever wondered why your credit score affects your car insurance cost in the UK? It’s not fair, and while other countries have already taken action to stop this, we’re still behind! It’s time for the FCA (Financial Conduct Authority) to wake up and do something about it.

Let’s see how other places are handling this problem:

United States: In the US, some states like California, Hawaii, and Massachusetts have completely banned the use of credit scores in car insurance pricing. They’ve realised that your financial history shouldn’t decide how much you pay for car insurance! Why are we still allowing this in the UK when it mostly harms people who are already struggling with money? Even in other US states where it's allowed, they’ve made sure drivers know exactly how their credit score affects their premium. So why isn’t the UK demanding the same fairness?

Germany: Germany doesn’t even use credit scores to set car insurance prices! Instead, they focus on things that actually matter for driving, like your driving record and risk factors like your age or the type of car you drive. It’s a fair system, and it works. Why can’t we do the same here? Why are we letting people be punished for financial issues that have nothing to do with how they drive?

Canada: In Canada, some provinces let insurers use credit scores, but they have strict rules. For example, in Ontario, insurers have to get your permission first. In other places, like Newfoundland and Labrador, it’s harder for companies to use your credit score at all. But here in the UK, insurers don’t even have to ask – they just use it against you. How is that fair?

Countries like the US and Germany have already realised how wrong this system is, and they’ve done something to make it better. Why is the UK so slow to act? The FCA needs to step up and stop letting this happen! Using credit scores to set car insurance prices isn’t just unfair – it hurts people who are already struggling the most.

We can’t keep accepting excuses. It’s time for the FCA to follow the example set by Germany and places like California. Car insurance should be based on driving risk, not financial history.

Let’s keep pushing for change! Share this petition and help make sure the FCA knows we won’t accept this any longer. Together, we can create a fairer system for everyone.
