Out of respect for the constitutional rights and diversity of all students, families, and community members, we ask that the Ascension Parish School Board cease opening its meetings with  prayer.

The APSB begins their meetings with a secular prayer, led by School Board members, exclusively in the custom and nature of Christian religious practices. This is a violation of the Establishment Clause of the Constitution. This petition asks for citizens to protect Constitutional law by requesting a clear separation of church and state. 

Children are impressionable and may not always be of the faith or practice their faith in the manner displayed by the APSB. These meetings are for the public, as a function of the government, and the public should be able to choose with whom and how they practice their religion, or don't practice a religion. The public should not expect to be met by religion when attending meetings of government affairs. 

Stop Unconstitutional Prayer at Schools and School Board meetings. Support Separation of Church and State. Support the Constitution and its laws.
