Stop Unconscionable Rent Increases in Montclair

The Issue

UPDATE: Since this petition we have continued our Legal Fight! Montclair's Rent Control Board voted that this building is subject to rent control and can not charge more than 4% increases. However, the building has continued to do so in some cases raising rents 20% and are appealing in Superior Court. Help us pay for our legal defense to save our homes!

The below are alleged accounts of multiple residents.

The residents at 11 Pine Street "The Alister" are under duress. Our rents are increasing at unconscionable rates (20-40%and more increases reported) and our fees are possibly being mismanaged by our new management company.

Meanwhile, the Alister’s  management company has $14 Billion dollars in assets and executives with seven figure salaries and multiple homes.

Montclair thrives on diversity but with rent increases of 40% this town is at risk of becoming homogenous. Our building is a testament to the world we create here in Montclair. There are people of all ages, musicians, comedians, school teachers, business people, couples of all kinds, families of all kinds, single folks of all kinds. We love our homes, we love our town, and we love contributing to its vibrant community fabric.  And we are struggling to keep up with rent increases.
