Friends and Supporters,
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
Whether you emailed Norfolk City Council, stood outside in the rain, or spoke bravely at the microphone, you showed up for Berkley and for what’s right. Your presence and voices made it clear that our community will not stay silent when it comes to protecting our health, homes, and environment.
Though the rezoning passed 2–6, this is not the end; it is the beginning of a new phase in our fight. The decision may have been made in Council chambers, but the power to demand accountability and justice remains with us, the people of Norfolk.
We are still demanding that Colonna’s Shipyard and the City of Norfolk address the serious health and environmental concerns impacting Berkley residents - including sandblasting debris, air and noise pollution, and unsafe traffic patterns - before any further operations or expansions continue.
And we are calling for Community Benefit Agreements to ensure that Big Business is a Good Neighbor to every Norfolk community. No neighborhood should have to trade clean air, safety, or peace of mind for economic growth.
This movement is not just about Berkley, it’s about every community in Norfolk. Because what happens in Berkley today could happen in Park Place, Ocean View, or Estabrook tomorrow.

The Berkley Community & The Good Industrial Neighbors Campaign
