Hi everyone,

Update
We have not yet received any update on the planning outcome for Mary Morris House. The most recent communication came from our local MP, who expressed support for the proposal but was unable to share any details of the assessments or evidence that informed that position.

Like many residents, I remain deeply concerned that this location presents a high level of risk and will have a significant negative impact on the area—particularly for women and children, whose safety and wellbeing appear to have been completely overlooked. In the MP’s latest statement, more attention was given to ensuring sensitivity in language than to addressing the practical realities and risks of housing 250 adult men in a predominantly residential area.

Every resident I have spoken with agrees that this is the wrong location. Many local women have expressed that they already feel anxious about personal safety, are changing routines such as walking routes or nursery drop-offs, and feel their rights and voices have been dismissed. It is disappointing to see so little concern or leadership from our local representatives on these points.

We were also advised that public meetings would be arranged, yet none have taken place.

Freedom of Information Requests
To ensure transparency, Freedom of Information (FOI) requests have now been submitted to both the Home Office and Leeds City Council. These requests seek access to:

The Community Impact and Risk Assessments,
Any planning or change-of-use assessments, and
All communications between the relevant authorities.
Once responses are received, they will be shared with this group so we can collectively understand the extent of risk assessment undertaken and whether any mitigation plans are in place.

Community Action
Our petition has now reached 189 signatures, which is an excellent milestone. Our next goal is 250, so please continue to share the petition widely with friends, neighbours, and local networks. Every signature strengthens our voice and demonstrates the community’s collective concern.

Finally, thank you to everyone who has written to MPs and councillors, signed and promoted the petition, and helped raise awareness. This is a complex and sensitive issue, but our position is based on fairness, safety, and community integrity. Please stay focused, stay respectful, and do not allow your legitimate concerns to be dismissed.

Kind regards,
CRH
