As business owners and Residents of Wanstead,  we have always cherished the unique village charm and vibrant community that characterizes our area. Wanstead is more than just a location; it is a haven abundant in green spaces and a conservation area that protects its distinct identity and heritage. Our High Street, lined with flourishing businesses, is central to this character.

Unfortunately, recent decisions made by Redbridge Council threaten to disrupt the equilibrium that makes Wanstead special. The Council has decided to permit the installation of market stalls all along our High Street. This decision was made without any consultation, behind closed doors, and without the knowledge of residents or local business owners, disregarding the voices of those directly affected.

The introduction of market stalls could interfere with the daily operations of existing businesses, many of which contribute to Wanstead’s unique appeal. Our established businesses, some of which have stood for years, could face unforeseen challenges and competition, all without having had the opportunity to engage in dialogue about this significant change.

We are calling upon Redbridge Council to halt the implementation of these market stalls until a thorough public consultation is conducted. We request a transparent process that considers the views of Wanstead's residents and business owners to collaboratively decide what is best for our community.
