I'm writing this out of a deep sense of frustration and concern over the use of our hard-earned tax money. Like many of you, I recently learned that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be returning to the UK, and there is a growing concern that taxpayers will be once again burdened with the cost of their security. Let it sink in: Harry and Meghan are no longer working members of the Royal Family, and yet, there's an expectation for UK taxpayers to cover the entire cost of their security arrangements during their stay.

This isn't fair or justifiable. Our country is already stretched financially with numerous pressing issues such as rising energy costs, a strained healthcare system, and critical public services needing funds more than ever. Redirecting public money towards private security for non-working royals is not a priority our taxpayers can or should support.

In their roles as private citizens, it's reasonable and fair to expect Harry and Meghan to pay for their own security arrangements. According to security experts, the cost of protection could run into millions of pounds annually, and it should be the responsibility of the individuals who require these services rather than the ordinary people of the UK.

Let's really think about how this money could instead be spent. The NHS is crying out for more support to reduce wait times. Our schools need funding to provide resources and support for teachers and students. The police and other vital services are crying out for more funding to tackle rising crime in neighborhoods across the country.

We need to make our voices heard loud and clear – taxpayer money should be spent benefiting the public good, not on providing personal security for millionaires. Harry and Meghan have the financial capacity and resources to handle their own expenses without relying on public resources.
