Stop Turkey from deporting journalist Neda Amin to Iran
UN Watch is gravely concerned that on August 5th, 2017, Turkey is planning to deport journalist Neda Amin back to Iran, where she could face execution.
Ms. Amin works as a journalist for the Persian-language edition of the The Times of Israel, and is in grave danger should she be deported back to Iran. During Ms. Amin’s stay in Turkey, she received threats from the Iranian intelligence service because she works for an Israeli news outlet.
Don't let Neda be deported. Urge your representatives in government to speak out and save her.

We write with grave concern about Turkey’s deportation order against Ms. Neda Amin, an Iranian journalist who holds UN refugee status. (UNHCR Refugee Certificate No. 385-16C02013.) The order, issued by authorities in the city of Eskişehir, set the deportation of Ms. Amin for this week, on August 5th, 2017.
High Commissioner, we urge you to intervene with the Turkish government to cancel this illegal deportation order, which violates Turkey’s obligations under international law. As you know, Turkey is party to both the 1951 Convention and the 1967 Protocol Relating to the Status of Refugees. The Convention provides that no one shall “expel or return a refugee against his or her will, in any manner whatsoever, to a territory where he or she fears threats to life or freedom.” This guarantee against forcible return is restated on Ms. Amin’s UNHRC Refugee Certificate.
Ms. Amin will be in grave danger if deported to Iran. As a journalist working for the Persian-language edition of the Times of Israel, during Ms. Amin’s stay in Turkey she repeatedly received threats from Iranian intelligence agents. Under Article 282 and Article 508 of Iran’s Penal Code, “cooperation with enemy states” is punishable by death. As such, Ms. Amin faces the risk of execution if returned to Iran.
Given the urgency of this case, we urge you to intervene with all deliberate speed.
