Stop Trump’s Presidential Library Next to the Freedom Tower in Miami
The Issue
Miami Dade College has quietly cleared the way for a Donald J. Trump Presidential Library to rise next to Miami’s iconic Freedom Tower — without public input, without transparency, and with deep disrespect to the immigrants whose stories are told inside that historic building.
The Freedom Tower is known as the "Ellis Island of the South," where Cuban asylum seekers were welcomed with dignity after fleeing communism. Now, state officials want to hand over 2.6 acres of prime downtown land — for free — to the man who promised to carry out the largest mass deportation operation in U.S. history. This is not a symbol of freedom. It’s a betrayal.
Let’s be clear: This decision wasn’t about education or historical preservation. It was a rushed, closed-door vote at Miami Dade College with no mention of Trump or the land’s true purpose. And it was immediately followed by an announcement from the state Attorney General celebrating the site as the future home of Trump’s legacy project.
The library would be bankrolled by settlements from defamation lawsuits Trump filed against media outlets — not grassroots donations or civic partnerships. This is political propaganda, not a public good.
We call on the Florida Cabinet — especially Governor Ron DeSantis, Attorney General James Uthmeier, CFO Blaise Ingoglia, and Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson — to vote NO on gifting this land to the Trump Library Foundation.
Miami deserves better. Our landmarks should uplift our shared values, not be co-opted by a single political legacy built on division and exclusion. If the state wants to honor presidential history, it must do so with transparency, respect for public land, and input from the community.
Add your name to stop this misuse of public trust and protect the soul of Miami’s downtown.
